How strange that your aunt wouldn't inquire first before assuming you'd want to purchase beer? Not everyone is a drinker. Apparently, she thought you wanted to try it. Every family has some members who are aggressive and it's good that you stood firm about your feelings.

Yeah that is a bit strange for an aunt to try and force alcohol on you. Where I'm originally from, at the time 18 was legal age. I went out with my family to a family owned bar and drank. My family didn't force it on me, they just wanted to be with me during my celebration. They did however buy me beer as a gift and after drinking so much the night before I didn't even want to look at that case of beer lol.

I love beer. If you should ever find yourself in this or a similar situation, say, “Fine, I’ll buy the stinking beer, but I’m shipping it to Jody.”

Crazy! What was she thinking? And then she took the baby in the liquor store instead of just leaving her in the car with you. So strange...

I can't remember the first time I bought legal alcohol, but the last time has been etched into my sober brain for more than 30 years. Enjoyed the story, Matthew!

Gosh, Matt, what an extraordinary story! I can only think that your aunt felt that she was perhaps TRYING to get to know you better by making the first move, as it were, and felt that she wanted to be part of what she'd considered to be a rite of passage for her young nephew.

Over here you're allowed to buy alcohol at 18, rather than 21. I'm just thinking back to the first time I bought alcohol - there certainly weren't any members of the previous generation involved! I do drink alcohol, but I certainly wouldn't be trying to make the kind of decision for anyone else that your aunt was trying to make for you!
