You’ll have to move to Australia. Our posties are all on little bikes, easily manoeuvrable. And of course I live in a little country town which means everyone knows everyone, so odd-sized parcels get left on your verandah or get given to neighbours that they know will pass them on. I’m a very lucky soul. Thanks for the reminiscences Matthew. You provide us with some interesting little stories. 🤗🤗

Wow! That's something. Who knew they used bikes to deliver mail. That's what I like about having subscribers from different parts of the world. I get to find out unique things I didn't know.

Matt, that's sooooo frustrating - it must have driven you crazy!

Over here in UK houses we don't have the kind of mailboxes you do - we have a slit in the front door with a metal flap over it (we call it a 'letterbox', even though it's not a box!), and mail gets posted through the slit and lands on the floor of the hallway inside your house. The postman (lady) HAS to get out of his (or her) van and walk up to the door (although actually ours mostly parks on the High Street and walks up the lane - there aren't very many houses up here, so if it's a 'light' day for post it's easily doable on foot).

Parking though - for people in general, not just postmen - is often a challenge. We live on an unmade lane, and although there isn't really room for cars to park along it, people do. When Jim lived here alone there was one parking space inside his boundary, on his property, and he once got home from work to find one of the cars belonging to the household next door parked in his space. HIS space. On HIS land! 🤣

We redesigned the front garden last year and now I get to park my car on our property, too, rather than half in the hedge, half in the lane, as I used to. It's a real luxury in comparison - I'm so grateful!

That's funny about someone parking in Jim's spot. I'm sure he wasn't too happy. Hopefully, he rooted them out so he could park there. This reminds me of a story involving something similar that happened to my Mom. Thanks for reminding me. I have new story to tell now. 🤣

Hmm...this is the second time I think you mentioned your car. And here I thought you only had the van!

He was very upset about it, Matt! 🤣

Yes, I do have a car - although we're mostly in the van. I have a little Ford Fiesta which I use for pootling about when I'm on my own, or Jim pinches it if he has to go somewhere with height restrictions. I don't really use it all that much, tbh.

I used to love driving! I wouldn't think twice about jumping into the car and heading off hundreds of miles without thinking. These days I'm much, MUCH more of a homebody.

You know that phrase 'I don't get out much'? Well, I don't get out much! 🤣

Yep, that's the bad thing about having inconsiderate neighbors.
