Good story and yes I have had shoes that left traces of themselves behind. My sister gave me a pair of nice looking clogs but she said that she's had them for years even though they looked in good shape. She hadn't worn them in a long time because of her feet were getting bad. One day I put them on to go somewhere and I walked through the kitchen. When I back tracked because I forgot something, I noticed little black pieces all over the house. I was like what is all this? I took off the shoes and looked at them. The black heals were deteriorating while I was walking.

Loved this! I don't play golf, but grew up opposite a golf course - my brother joined as a cadet member and used to go over to practise. Dad tried to join once - it's the sort of place where you have to be accepted by the committee, if you know what I mean - anyway, they told him 'We think you're a very nice chap, and we'd love to have you - but sadly your golf just isn't up to scratch!' They recommended an intensive course with their club pro, but he didn't ever pursue it. 😁

Nice story about the shoes. I hate shopping, and will literally wear clothes and shoes until they fall apart. My husband and I were on very short break to an unusually (for us!) posh hotel a few years ago, and as I walked across their damp lawn (while we were swanning ostentatiously around the grounds!) the sole of one of my elderly boots snapped clean across the middle. I yelped - my foot was suddenly cold and wet - and nearly frightened the gardener to death!

I used to play a bit, but not for a few years. I don't miss it, but I did enjoy your story! Funny about the shoes...
