Who’s ready to see some art? I’m excited to show you what I came up with in January.
I told you in my January Abstract Art Newsletter that I had four paintings coming up to show you. I hope you enjoy them!
You’ll see a bunch of different colors showcased.
And as usual, I chose one of my subscriber’s hometown to showcase in one of my paintings. Stay tuned to see who the winner is.
January 2024
Let’s Go Cruisin’ in Florida, Port Canaveral, Florida- 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
This was my most difficult painting. This is the top of a cruise ship based out of Port Canaveral, Florida. On the left of the painting is the disembarking area. The small squares that are in the middle of the painting are all of the chairs that were on top of the ship. You’ll notice I added the word “Cruisin’” into the painting as well.
The colors came out so well with this one. Although difficult and time-consuming, it was all well worth it.
Blue Whale Health, Cocoa Beach, Florida, 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
I wasn’t sure what to name this one. Then I noticed that it looks like there is a blue whale on the lower left of the painting. I didn’t paint it to be that way, it just came out that way.
This is actually the top-down photo of Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida. It currently sits off of one of our causeways. During hurricanes they always have to evacuate it. That’s why they are going to be building a new hospital further inland. Who knows what will become of the old one.
The small rectangles on the bottom are cars on the roadway.
The whole hospital is a giant square. I had a lot of space left on the right side, so I did a bunch of random strokes on that side.
This was my first time using most of those colors. I decided to throw them all at this painting and see how it came out. When I was finished, I wasn’t so sure about it. I almost destroyed it. Thank God I did not! Once I put the outlining in, it sprang to life.
Painting Downtown Manlius, New York - 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
Drum roll, please…….And the winner is
from .Welcome to Downtown Manlius, New York. I have been picking my subscribers locations as ideas for my paintings. I had fun exploring this town/village to discover what made it tick.
On the top left, you have the shopping center.
The following streets and their accompanying buildings are represented: Fayette St, Flume Rd, Mill St, Liberty Ln, W Seneca St (the main road).
After I got done with it and started looking it over, I noticed something that came out that I wasn’t expecting. In the middle right, one of the parking lots appears to look like a paintbrush. The type of paintbrush that you would paint a wide area or paint your house with.
On this one, I decided to add some writing: Manlius, New York, YMCA, and the zip code.
Flying Out, Melbourne, Florida - 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
This is a top-down look at Melbourne-Orlando International Airport, Melbourne, Florida. This one was difficult because I couldn’t get everything in the painting. The airport is huge and I had to delete portions because of the size.
One third of the way down on the left side, you’ll find the Northrop Grumman buildings, hanger, and parking lots.
I added other portions to this one as well. There were too many blank spaces, so I made up my own marks to accommodate a better painting.
You’ll notice one of the runways in silver. Just left of the runway near the bottom, in orange, is the terminal with the jetways sticking out.
There are hangers, parking lots, and parking spaces.
Conclusion
I hope you like last month’s paintings.
Once I have created a few more paintings, I plan to put them on a website. All my paintings will be available for sale. Stay tuned for the launch.
I’ve already completed two more paintings this month. I’ll be talking about those in the March Abstract Art newsletter.

I do understand the dilemma where you're living. My daughter recently moved back after securing a 100% remote job. Prior to that she lived in Orlando, just down the street from Disney Springs (so a really high rent neighborhood!) The money she paid for a studio apartment was ridiculous, but was close to her work and she chose the higher rent over commuting. It amazes me how much new construction is going in! How do they expect to fill all those apartments and condos on service industry wages is beyond my comprehension. Businesses should pay workers a living wage, period.
I wish you all the best with your new side hustle.
AWESOME work, Matt - your paintings are so vibrant and original - I love what you're doing! 🙌
