He came out of nowhere.
Today, I was at Walmart shopping for my weekly grocery run. I had my Mom in tow as we had just come from one of her appointments.
I was looking for an item that the website had said was on this particular aisle. It wasn’t.
Then he appeared.
A man in his mid fifties to early sixties. He was short, had a hat on, and had a salt-and-pepper beard. I saw him say something but I thought he was talking to someone else ahead of me. Then I realized he was talking to me. He was carrying a cell phone in one hand and a pen in the other.
He said, “Here have a pen,” as he reached it out to me. He had noticed my list. He continued, “So you have something to cross those items off.”
I said, “No I’m okay.”
He said, “You have a pen?”
I said, “Yeah, I got one.” Meanwhile I’m still moving the cart away from him this whole time.
He said, “Okay. Okay.”
By the way, I did not have a pen. I never use a pen. I always have it in order of the aisles, so I have no need for a pen.
So I went about finishing my list and headed for the checkout.
All of the self-checkouts were taken so I had to wait for the next available one. A woman and her daughter were finishing up and motioned to my Mom that we could put the items up on the conveyor belt.
I scanned everything and packed up all of the groceries, paid, and left.
As we were walking toward the exit, the man appeared again.
This time, he didn’t have anything in his hands and with a wave of his left hand, he yelled “have a good day!”.
Conclusion
You never know who you are going to come into contact with when you are out shopping.
As a side note, I hope
approves of my stick drawing capabilities.Until next time, happy reading!

oh yes, very good. I think most paintings/drawings are far too detailed!
I love reading observations of life, Matt - this is great! Super drawing, too!
