Welcome to the July 2025 Abstract Art Newsletter.
I want to welcome all of the new subscribers this month. It’s been awhile since I posted my art. My plan is to keep posting my art once a week. I have a backlog of 14 paintings that I haven’t shown yet. Under the “July 2025” title image, you can see a preview of one of my 4 x 6 inch paintings.
To those who are here that follow my writing, as in the funny stories from my life and the fiction pieces, those are going to take a backseat to the art for now.
You’ll be seeing more of my art for now. As some of you know, I’m working toward starting my art business. This has been a slow process because of everything going on. I just checked off a couple of things on my list and hopefully the others will come in due time.
One thing is for sure, my area is besieged with art. We have an art district in the city south of me with all kinds of opportunities to show your art here on the Space Coast. So when it’s “officially” time, I shouldn’t have a problem getting my paintings out there.
Out of the 14 paintings, I have selected a few to show. I’ll be showcasing one 24 x 30, one 16 x 20, one 8 x 16, and one 5 x 7.
Where Magic Happens, 24 inches x 30 inches (acrylic paint marker on canvas)
If you’ve ever been to Orlando, Florida, you’ve probably been to Walt Disney World. Imagine growing up and being a kid going to Disney. I was there many years ago. When we would come to Florida on vacation, we would go and have fun.
This painting depicts the Main Street USA, a clothing store, Starbucks, a bakery, and several restaurants. You’ll see large flower areas with hedged areas.
The little circles and oval sections show people on the walkways. Large blue areas are the ponds. The dark green sections are green grass. The area near the top of the painting leads you to Cinderella’s castle. The roof-lines are some of the most interesting that I paint. There are so many objects that I can paint from those areas.
Of course, I always add in some other interesting areas to maximize the effect of the painting.
I completed this painting in July 2025.
Soaring into Space #1, 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic paint marker on canvas)
This is LaunchPad 39B at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Rockets soar into space on a regular basis now. If you’re a follower of space, you’ll remember they use to fly the Space Shuttle into orbit here. They still fly people into space but now they use SpaceX for that purpose.
NASA, SpaceX, and other companies use the launchpads to launch their rockets. These rockets have payloads consisting of everything from satellites for Internet Access to secret military missions.
I watch the rockets from my condo, when I remember they are going off. It’s so often that is almost like you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.
Once the payload has been jettisoned, the rocket comes back to earth. It either lands out on a ship off the coast or lands back on land where it took off. When it lands back on land, it is amazing to see it when it is night. You see the flame light up as it descends. We can see it when it is about 200 feet from landing.
I completed this painting in June 2025.
God’s Creatures #1, 8 inches x 16 inches (acrylic paint marker on canvas)
This painting is from Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary in Merritt Island, Florida. On each side of the sanctuary you’ll find single-family homes tucked up against each other in the neighborhood. Water from the Banana River is found throughout the sanctuary. That’s depicted with the turquoise blue color.
There’s a walking path on the western end of this sanctuary that wraps around to the northern section. It connects to one of the neighborhoods.
I named this “God’s Creatures” because while researching this photo for this painting, I came across a couple of unique things. First, there was a cross indicated on the photo. It was where the bushes had grown and where there was water, it formed a cross, so I thought I would add it. Second, the way the bushes grew in another section, when I drew it out, it formed an object or creature.
I completed this painting in May 2025.
Riverside Rabbit, 5 inches x 7 inches (acrylic paint marker on canvas)
It took me forever to come up with the proper name for this painting. Then it hit me. This is Grills Riverside restaurant located in Melbourne, Florida. It is on U.S. Highway 1 north of the Pineda Causeway.
In the painting, a “rabbit” appeared in yellow. I love how mark-making creates unknown objects that you can use in the name of your painting. You never know when these things will appear.
I have been to this restaurant a few times. They sell great seafood and salads. They have an area where you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the river.
I completed this painting in April 2025.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this look at some of my latest paintings. The next few newsletters will showcase my paintings in the 4 x 6 inches to 8 x 10 inches size range.
I would like to paint some larger size canvases but size could be a problem for me. I have a small car so getting one and then transporting it somewhere might be a problem. So I’m sticking right now to anything 24 x 30 inches or less.
Keep those comments coming. It keeps me motivated and I enjoy hearing from you!

Terrific work, Matt, and it's so lovely to read the stories behind each piece.
When I had my tiny glass art business I used to participate in local 'open studios' events. I would join other artists a couple of times a year to show/sell jointly in a location with others, and it was really useful to share the cost/organisation/potential customers/enthusiasm!
Do you know the work - and fabulous Substack newsletter - of Sue Clancy? She's at A. M. Sketching. She's recently had an exhibition of her latest work - it looks brilliant. Check her out!

Well done Matt.
Please, do carry on.
