This is my first newsletter in a long time. September came and it was gone in a flash. I miss my regular writing on this platform. As usual my work schedule changed and now I’m working 6 days a week. It’s hard to get my writing in and do anything, for that matter. I’m usually tired when I get home and only have time to do a few things.
I missed talking about my August abstract art in a newsletter for September. So I’ve decided to write two posts this month based on what I did in August and September.
In this post, I’ll talk about August paintings. In part 2, you’ll see the September paintings. To put all of the paintings into one newsletter would have been too much. There are seven paintings total.
Well, let’s get on with it!
Welcome to the October 2024 (Part 1) – Abstract Art newsletter. The paintings in this issue were done in August.
For those of you that may be new to my painting. I use photos of maps to get my ideas for my paintings. Every once in a while, I’ll use my own photos as you’ll see in one of the paintings.
All paintings are painted on all sides (top, left, right and bottom).
August 2024
Let’s Go Shopping #2, 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
This is the local shopping mall in Viera, Florida. It’s called The Avenue Viera. The stores are arranged around a circular drive. There is parking in front of some of the stores, while the other parking is within the circle. They have a special 9/11 memorial near the movie theater. I’ve been there many times to do regular shopping and to go during Christmas. During the holidays, they have reindeer topiary placed around the area near the stores. They also play Christmas music that is heard outside the stores.
Butterfly Light, 16 inches by 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
Welcome to Honfleur, France. I came to this location while looking in France for something to paint. There is a zoo called Naturospace Honfleur where they have multiple species of butterflies. Right outside the zoo is a lighthouse. What better combination for a name than Butterfly Light.
Pressed Kleenex #1, 8 inches x 10 inches (acrylic on canvas)
You are going to get a kick out of what this is. It’s exactly what I named it. My Mom was lying on the couch and she had a kleenex on the pillow. When she had her head down on the pillow and kleenex, it made indentations and I took a photo of it. I carefully drew in those indentations as closely as possible. You can make art from anything!
A Pint at Murray’s, 8 inches x 10 inches (acrylic on canvas)
Welcome to Dublin, Ireland. Has anyone been to Murray’s Bar & Grill? I can’t say that I have. But I like the name. LOL! I had looked at this bar before and decided I would try to do the outside of it in abstract. As you know, I prefer the top-down approach but thought I would give it a go here. I like my paintings to be vertical but I painted it in landscape, so I thought I would post both options.
New Developments Coming Soon
When I formed “Writer’s Notebook”, I was writing all my stories into notebooks, which were then put on the computer. I don’t write in notebooks now. I did get a notebook to start doing that again but it’s just easier to type on the computer. I can’t even read my handwriting anymore, so it’s probably a good thing that I write it on the computer.
It’s been over 2 1/2 years since I started writing here. As I said earlier I have loved writing all about my life. And when I started showing you my fiction stories, it was a plus.
I’m not done writing about my life or showcasing my fiction. It’s just hard to do it right now.
Life is flying by. I need to follow the path that is opening for me now.
I’m going to be changing the name of this publication. Now that I’ve added my abstract art to this newsletter, it warrants a change. I’ve been working on a publication name and new graphics. The good thing is that you’ll still be able to receive it at the same location. Luckily when I signed up, I put it under my name, otherwise I’d have a problem. Whew!
When will this change go into effect? Who knows! I can’t give a time table on anything these days.
I’m shooting for a specific month to launch my art store website. I’ll keep that under wraps for now. So many things can change that date going forward. I can’t wait until the time comes when I can launch everything.
Conclusion
That does it for Part 1. I’ll post Part 2 in a few weeks.
I hope you like all of the new paintings.

You're like a latter day MOndrian, apart from not sticking to straight lines and primary colours! Very nice.
Very creative and talented Matt. That is funny about the Kleenex too. It turned out pretty cool.
