Welcome to the June 2024 – Abstract Art newsletter. This newsletter covers paintings I did in May. It was a busy month and I only painted 3 pieces. But wait until we get to next month. In June, I have done 6 paintings. This is a record for the most paintings completed within a month. I’ve had a lot more time in June.
All paintings are painted on all sides (top, left, right and bottom) and they’re also for sale.
May 2024
Getting Tuned Up, 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
This painting with its vibrant colors was based on a photo I took while I was at the Daytona International Speedway. I was there watching NASCAR cars and trucks racing. The original photo was taken inside the garage area. The cars were in the garages getting worked on while practicing. The cars pull into the garages and the mechanics get to work. They work on everything trying to get the cars faster. The driver’s haulers are parked nearby. The team members stand on top of the haulers and clock the cars going around the track.
I painted it horizontally, so I rotated the image to show it to you. I prefer the vertical representation as all my paintings are.
Hot Dogs #1, 8 inches by 10 inches (acrylic on canvas board)
The inspiration for this piece came from my usual go-to, Google Maps. This is the top down image from the Long Doggers restaurant. They sell a lot of different hot dogs, hence the name of this painting. I’ve never been to one but there’s always a chance.
Let’s Go Shopping #1, 16 inches x 20 inches (acrylic on canvas)
This is my most difficult painting to date. This is based on the Melbourne Square Mall in Melbourne, Florida. When I was living closer to his mall, I used to go here all the time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been there. It’s probably hundreds or thousands.
You see the footprint of the mall with the surrounding restaurants to the left. There’s a three-story office building in the top left.
There were two factors that made this painting difficult. Just look at it! First, there were a lot of small areas to fill. The second thing was the outlining. There was SO MUCH to do. It took me two hours for just the outlining. Of course, it’s always fun painting any piece but I always enjoy the outlining because I know the painting is going to come out and POP! If you look at it before the outlining, it doesn’t do anything for you. After, it is golden!
Conclusion
That’s a wrap for May 2024.
As I said in the beginning, this month has been a lot less congested, so I’ve had all the time in the world to paint. So next month, I’ll be profiling 6 paintings. Two are 11x14s and the other four are 16x20. I can’t wait until you see them. By the way, the graphic at the top signifying “June” has a snippet from a painting you’ll see in July.
If you are someone that’s interested in your own painting, I take commissions. You can contact me for details. Just DM me.
Did I mention every painting is for sale? $$ That includes everything I have profiled in the past, except for “Let’s Go Cruisin’ in Florida”. That is in my private collection. It hangs on my wall in my bedroom.

Great work, Matt! It's so interesting how different an abstract painting can look according to which way up it is. Like you I prefer the first one you'd pictured in portrait format, rather than landscape. Fascinating!
The mall - wow, what an epic piece - I love that it looks like a map.
Awesome work Matt.
